Virginia Baker, age 70, of Pierce City, MO died on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Ms. Baker was born in Verona, MO on Saturday, April 01, 1944. She was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Gripka) Miller. Ms. Baker taught math in the Sarcoxie School for many years. She also played the organ at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO and at St Joseph Catholic Church in Billings, MO. Surviving are the following: two daughters, Judy Younker of Pierce City, MO and Janice Miller of Monett, MO; one son, Daniel Baker of Saint Louis, MO; three sisters, Margaret Stewart of Aurora, MO, Dorothy Miller of Saint Louis, MO, and Shirley Miller of Chicago, IL; five brothers, John Miller of Dallas, TX, Laurence Miller of Chicago, IL, Robert Miller of Aurora, MO, James Miller of Chicago, IL, and Donald Miller of Pittsburgh, PA; and six grandchildren. Ms. Baker was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Richard, and Jerry. The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City from 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, with Rosary to follow at 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City MO with Father Dan Hirtz and Father Peter J. Morciniec officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Pierce City, MO. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School in Pierce City.
